Spaghetti with tomato and mozzarella sauce and grilled chicken breast

The Wife let me loose on the kitchen tonight (I've been threatening it for a while). When I cook I tend to try to be a bit flashy. It's part showing off, trying to impress The Wife or whoever happens to be round for tea, and it's part because I really enjoy it. I wish I got the opportunity to man the stove more often.

When I first met The Wife (in Crete of all places) I wooed her with fancy cocktails from the hotel bar that I put on my Dad's tab. Later, when we were long-distance courting (she's from The South), she'd come and stay with me in my student house in Hull. I'd cook her such culinary delights as "Fish fingers with a coriander salad with balsamic dressing in a mediterranean flat bread." It's a posh fish finger sandwich but I just wanted to be a bit cocky. To now, where my attempts to impress in the kitchen generally just mean using more pans than she would and throwing some fresh herbs on top of the dish.

Tonight's culinary masterpiece was spaghetti with tomato and mozzarella sauce topped with a grilled chicken breast and some fresh basil, served with cheesy garlic slices. A pretty quick and easy weekday tea in fairness, but you know; it had basil on the top.
